This is a great test. Thanks Robert. Remember, for those of you on a tight budget, the Sennheiser MKE400 is a great upgrade to the on-camera mic.

Very comprehensive test. We resort to double system sound and use the plug in Plural Eyes. We have the 5D and 7D - nice pictures on both. Hope to play with the firmware hack to disable auto gain soon.

We loaded the Magic Lantern firmware onto a 5DmkII and confirmed that it disabled auto-gain. It was a definite improvement to the auto-gain problem, though we left it up to the client whether they wanted to keep using that firmware as it significantly changed the operating environment of the camera. It did work, however, and we await a firmware update for the 7D as well!
